MORE THAN AN INTERNSHIP
The 2026 Kamp Kionne interns wrapped up their summer with much more than another line to add to a résumé.
Throughout the program, students gained hands-on work experience while also being exposed to the people, places, and systems that help keep our community moving. Their summer included professional development, field trips, community service, and opportunities to build relationships with leaders and professionals across Miami-Dade County.
Among their experiences, interns visited the Miami-Dade Emergency Management Center to learn from the professionals responsible for preparing for and responding to emergencies throughout our community. They also participated in a community service project with Lowe’s at Colonial Drive Park — giving them the opportunity to experience firsthand what it means to invest time and effort back into the community they call home.
By the time the program concluded, these young people walked away with something bigger than an internship: greater exposure, new connections, practical experience, and a better understanding of the many career paths and opportunities available right here in Miami-Dade.
Programs like Kamp Kionne remind us that workforce development begins long before someone submits their first full-time job application. It begins when we give young people opportunities to see what is possible.
