Two South Dade cities are collecting relief supplies for Colombia, and both drives close soon.
A 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit western Colombia on Aug. 10. Homestead and Pinecrest each opened donation drives in the weeks after, and South Dade families with ties to the region have been filling the bins.
Pinecrest
The Village of Pinecrest and Pinecrest Police are accepting donations through Sept. 10 at the Pinecrest Municipal Building, first floor garage, 12645 South Dixie Highway.
They are asking for tents, tarps, sleeping bags and blankets; toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and deodorant; first-aid kits; canned food; and pet and baby supplies. Details are on the Village news page.
Homestead
The City of Homestead is partnering with Global Empowerment Mission and has three drop-off sites:
- City Hall, 100 Civic Court, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Homestead Police Athletic League Gym, 600 SW 14th Ave., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- William F. Dickinson Community Center, 1601 N. Krome Ave., Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
