Miami-Dade County families could soon get a clearer picture of how the school district’s youngest learners are doing. At the June 17 School Board meeting, board member Luisa Santos won approval for a request asking the Superintendent to report on the district’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) Excellence Framework.
The report will look at enrollment trends, demand for early learning programs, partnerships with private providers, program quality, and student results. It will also suggest ways to expand access to high-quality early childhood education and offer ideas for future investments and policy.
The district already sees progress. Between 2024 and 2025, kindergarten readiness across the district rose from 40% to 43%. Among M-DCPS VPK (voluntary prekindergarten) students, readiness climbed from 49% to 53%.
“Every dollar we invest in our earliest learners comes back to us in huge educational gains and school readiness,” said School Board Member Luisa Santos. “This initiative will provide a comprehensive picture of how our Early Childhood Education Excellence Framework is performing, where we are making progress, and where additional support is needed.”
The new report builds on the Early Childhood Excellence Framework the board approved in May 2025. Families can read the full item at luisasantos.com/priorities.
