Imagine the Possibilities at Aleyda Mas Park!

Construction of Aleyda Mas Park is set to begin soon, with the park expected to open in Fall 2027. Residents are invited to help shape future programs and activities—including fitness, arts, cooking, lifelong learning, youth programs, special events, and more—by completing the community survey by August 7, 2026.

Pinecrest Police Hosts Women’s Self-Defense Training Aug. 25-27

Women and teens looking to build confidence and learn practical personal safety skills are invited to attend a free Women’s Self-Defense Training hosted by the Pinecrest Police Department and Citizen’s Crime Watch of Miami-Dade.

Open to women ages 14 and older (parental consent required for participants under 18), the training is designed to teach life-saving self-defense techniques, increase situational awareness, and empower participants with skills they can use in everyday life.

Registration is required and space is limited. Those interested must reserve their spot by emailing:  [email protected].

New State Permit Law Affects Some Residential Projects

Effective July 1, 2026, Florida’s HB 803 changed permit requirements for certain residential construction projects. Eligible improvements to single-family homes valued under $7,500 (including labor and materials) may no longer require a building permit, potentially reducing time and costs for homeowners.

However, permits are still required for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas, structural work, projects in flood hazard areas, and other work involving life safety. The law also extends building permit validity to one year after issuance or until the next Florida Building Code update, whichever is later.

HB 803 does not replace local zoning or Village requirements, and all projects must receive any required approvals before work begins. For more information, contact the Village of Pinecrest Building Department at 305-234-2121 or [email protected].
