Cutler Bay has only been a town since 2005, but the land and the people go back a lot further. A new video podcast from Town Hall is setting out to record some of that before it slips away.
“Cutler Bay All Day” launched in late August. Each episode is a conversation with someone who has helped shape the place: longtime residents, community leaders, elected officials, business owners, historians and anyone else with a real connection to the town.
“We’re excited to offer a new way for residents to connect with the rich history of Cutler Bay,” said Town Manager Rafael Casals. “This podcast will give viewers a more personal perspective and an opportunity to get to know the elected officials, community leaders, business owners, and longtime residents who have helped shape our Town, while hearing their stories, experiences, and connections to Cutler Bay.”
Start with episode one
The first episode features Mayor Tim Meerbott, and it is up now on the show’s YouTube channel and through the town’s website. Following the show on social media will get you episode announcements, clips and behind the scenes pieces between releases.
Why the town is doing it
There is a rule behind the show. Section 3.11 (B) of the Town Charter asks the Town Manager to reach residents of every age through traditional media, online communication, community events, town hall meetings and other ways of connecting. A video podcast is one more door into the same conversation, and it has the side benefit of preserving stories that only live in people’s memories right now.
