Homestead has a new mobile spay and neuter clinic, and the city cut the ribbon on it Tuesday, August 25, at Harris Field Park.
The clinic rolls up as a traveling unit, which means the service can go where pet owners already are instead of asking families to drive across the county. City leaders and staff gathered at the park at 1034 NE 8th St. at 10 a.m. to mark the opening.
Why it matters for local pets
Spay and neuter surgery is one of the simplest ways to hold down the number of stray dogs and cats in a community. Fewer unplanned litters means fewer animals in shelters and fewer pets living outside. It also cuts a pet’s risk of some cancers and can calm down roaming and fighting.
The city framed the clinic as a long-term community resource and a commitment to the health of local pets.
