Homestead is rethinking its biggest park, and the city wants to hear from the people who use it.
Harris Field Park covers about 47 acres in District 4, which makes it the largest recreational park in the city. It holds four baseball fields, three softball fields, soccer and football fields, an indoor court for basketball and volleyball, and outdoor basketball courts. The Sally Wood Barn Pavilion hosts wedding receptions, quinceañeras, concerts, auctions and dinner dances. The Homestead Rodeo arena is there too, along with the Le Jardin Community Center and the Fraternal Order of Police.
What the plan will do
The Harris Field Park Programming and Concept Design Plan will look at what is already there, figure out what the community actually needs, and put together a design framework to guide future spending. The city says the goal is better amenities, a clearer identity for the park and welcoming spaces for people of all ages and abilities.
How to share your ideas
A public survey is open now at harrisfieldparksurvey.org/public. Survey invitations also went out by mail to a random set of households so the city can collect a statistically valid sample, but the online version is open to everyone.
The first public workshop was held August 10 at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge inside the park. More workshops and outreach events are planned, and the city posts updates at HomesteadFL.gov/HarrisField.
