The City of Florida City has spent the summer bringing residents together through a series of community events focused on youth development, education, financial empowerment, public safety, and preparing local families for the upcoming school year.
BACK TO SCHOOL BASH PROVIDES SCHOOL-YEAR SUPPORT
On July 24, Florida City hosted its annual Back to School Bash at Loren Roberts Park brought students and their families for an afternoon of fun and school year gear preparations. The event provided much needed school bags, pens, paper and a number of activities to allow for families to have an easier transition into the new school year. This falls in alignment with the City’s commitment to supporting families and making sure students have the vital items they need to begin or return in this academic year ready for success.
FINANCIAL LITERACY TAKES CENTER STAGE
On July 22, Mayor Charlotte Thompson hosted a Financial Literacy Workshop at the Florida City Youth Activity Center, which provided residents with valuable information designed to strengthen their understanding of personal finances and financial decision-making.
The workshop provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about managing finances, planning for the future, and making informed financial decisions.
By bringing financial education directly into the community, Mayor Thompson continues to emphasize the importance of equipping residents with knowledge and tools that can contribute to long-term financial stability. There were also down payment assistance programs available on-site for those ready to go.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT WITH THE TAX COLLECTOR
The City’s back-to-school efforts continued on August 1 with a special event hosted by Mayor Thompson in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector.
The event brought families together and provided additional resources and activities for students as they prepared to return to the classroom. Partnerships such as this allow the City to connect residents with valuable county resources while creating positive experiences for children and families.
60 FLORIDA CITY YOUTH ATTEND BAM ADEBAYO BASKETBALL CAMP
Florida City also made a significant investment in local youth athletics by sponsoring 60 children to attend the BAM Adebayo Basketball Camp on August 2 at BAM Miami.
The City provided both sponsorship and transportation, ensuring that 60 local children had the opportunity to participate in a basketball camp led by Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo.
Beyond basketball, opportunities like this give young people the chance to develop discipline, teamwork, confidence, and healthy relationships while being exposed to positive role models. The City’s support helped make the experience accessible to children who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to attend.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY-POLICE CONNECTIONS
On August 3, the Florida City Police Department hosted National Night Out at the Florida City Youth Activity Center.
National Night Out provides an opportunity for residents and law enforcement officers to come together in a relaxed, family-friendly environment. The event encourages positive relationships between the community and police officers while promoting neighborhood engagement and public safety.
For Florida City, the event was another opportunity to bring families, children, and public safety professionals together and reinforce the importance of strong community partnerships.
A SUMMER FOCUSED ON COMMUNITY
All of the past summer events remain a part of the City’s commitment in supporting families and growing a well-rounded and supported community. What holds true for the future and focus of City of Florida city: when the youth and families are given the resources to succeed, the community prospers.
