This Weekend in South Dade: September 18–20

  • September 2026
  • South Dade Spotlight

A free movie under the stars, a morning on the water and giant bugs at the zoo. Here is what is happening around South Dade this weekend.

Friday, September 18

Movies in the Park: Wicked For Good
7 to 9:30 p.m. | Losner Park, 104 N. Krome Ave., Homestead | Free

A free outdoor showing of Wicked For Good in downtown Homestead. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks, and settle in with the neighbors.

Saturday, September 19

Cutler Bay Coastal Cleanup Day
9 a.m. to noon | Coastal Ridge Preserve, 18445 Old Cutler Road, Cutler Bay | Free

This is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, the biggest one day cleanup in the world. Volunteers clear trash and invasive plants, then plant natives to help the land recover. Please register ahead of time.

All weekend

Bugtopia at Zoo Miami
Open during regular zoo hours through October 31 | Zoo Miami, 12400 SW 152nd St.

Giant insects have taken over the zoo. The exhibit runs through Halloween, so it is a good rainy afternoon backup if a storm rolls through on Saturday.

Sunday, September 20

Sunday is open. It is a good morning for the Deering Estate grounds or a walk at one of the bayfront parks.

Looking ahead: Cutler Bay’s 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration lands Saturday, September 26 at 5 p.m., and the Deering Estate hosts Shorts & Beats, an evening of Venezuelan short films and music, the same night at 7 p.m.
