Just south and west of the city, the Redland is a whole different side of Miami-Dade. Here you will find tropical fruit stands, working farms, quirky landmarks, and wide-open nature. It is a favorite summer day trip for families who want fresh air, cool treats, and a slower pace. Here is a friendly guide to some of the best stops in the Redland and South Dade. Hours and prices can change, so please check each website before you go.

Robert Is Here Fruit Stand and Farm

No trip to the Redland is complete without Robert Is Here. This famous fruit stand has been going since 1959, and it is known for its tropical fruit, local honey and sauces, and milkshakes that people drive across the county for. Out back you will find a small animal farm the kids will love.

Fruit and Spice Park

This 37-acre county park is home to hundreds of kinds of tropical fruits, spices, and nuts from around the world. Take a guided tram tour, stroll the grounds, and taste fruit that has fallen that day. It is a peaceful and tasty way to spend a morning.

Coral Castle Museum

Everglades National Park (Homestead entrance)

The main Homestead gateway to Everglades National Park is one of the best places in the world to see alligators, wading birds, and wide sawgrass views. Start at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, then walk the easy Anhinga Trail at Royal Palm for close-up wildlife. Bring water, sun protection, and bug spray.

Location: park entrance off State Road 9336, Homestead. Hours: the park is open 24 hours; the Coe Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $35 per vehicle for a 7-day pass.

Pinecrest Gardens

A little closer to the city, Pinecrest Gardens is a lush historic garden with towering banyan trees, a splash pad, and a petting zoo. On Sunday mornings there is a popular farmers market. It is a lovely, shady spot for a family morning.

Address: 11000 Red Road (SW 57th Ave), Pinecrest. Phone: 305-669-6990. Check the website for current summer hours and admission.

One seasonal tip

If you are hoping to visit Knaus Berry Farm for its famous cinnamon rolls, you will need to wait. The farm closes for the summer and reopens in mid-October, so save that trip for the fall.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Redland a good day trip with kids? Yes. Robert Is Here, Fruit and Spice Park, and Pinecrest Gardens are all family-friendly and full of things to see and taste.

What should I bring? Water, sunscreen, bug spray, and cash for the fruit stands. A hat and comfortable shoes help too.

Is Everglades National Park too hot in summer? Summer is warm and buggy, so go early in the morning, bring water, and keep walks short. The wildlife is still easy to spot along the Anhinga Trail.

Are the fruit stands open in summer? Robert Is Here is open daily through the summer, but some smaller stands keep shorter hours. Knaus Berry Farm is closed until fall.
