A major investment in South Dade’s nonprofit sector took center stage as The Miami Foundation and Amazon announced $1 million in funding for 13 local nonprofit organizations. The announcement was made during a South Dade Nonprofit Landscape conversation at Miami Dade College Homestead Campus.
The funding followed the release of The Miami Foundation’s new South Dade Community Needs and Nonprofit Funding Landscape report, which examined more than 1,400 grants made to 262 South Dade nonprofits between January 2023 and October 2024. The report found that while $94 million in funding reached the region during that period, smaller grassroots organizations and unincorporated communities still face significant gaps in access to flexible, sustainable funding.
Amazon stepped up and responded to those findings with a $1 million commitment to 13 organizations serving South Dade families, including Be Strong International, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, Bridge to Hope, Chapman Partnership, Genesis Hopeful Haven, Mexican American Council, Miami EdTech, South Dade Connections, South Dade Women’s Veterans Alliance, Uplift Literacy, and others. The Miami Foundation described the grants as flexible funding intended to help organizations strengthen capacity and deepen their local impact.
For South Dade, the significance goes beyond the dollar amount. It is a powerful example of what can happen when data identifies a need and partners respond with meaningful investment.
Strong nonprofits strengthen families, communities, and ultimately the entire South Dade region!
